One of the best things about staying at Chambré Estate is that you can keep the “big day out” feeling without spending half your trip in the car. You’re only a short drive south of Margaret River town, so it’s easy to do a lazy long lunch at a winery, sneak in a beachside coffee, then be back at the estate in time for a soak and a quiet evening under the trees.
Local Ingredients & Authentic Experiences
If you want a meal that genuinely tastes like the region, Glenarty Road in Karridale is the one we’d send our friends to first. It’s a working farm and winery, and the food leans into what they grow and raise on-site, plus what’s best from nearby producers. It’s relaxed in the right way, with the kind of countryside setting that makes you slow down without trying too hard. Their restaurant runs from Wednesday to Monday for lunch, so it’s worth locking in a booking if you’re visiting in peak season.
If you’re after something a little more polished (still warm, still local, just more “occasion”), Vasse Felix is a beautiful lunch choice. Their restaurant is open daily for lunch, and it’s a proper sit-down experience that’s ideal for a long, unhurried afternoon with a tasting beforehand.
Winery Restaurants: Where Wine Meets Cuisine
Leeuwin Estate
Leeuwin is a classic for a reason. It’s one of those places that feels special the moment you arrive, and it suits a slower itinerary where the point is to take your time. If you’re celebrating something (or you just want a “this is why we came to Margaret River” meal), it’s a strong pick.
Voyager Estate
The Cape Dutch-style buildings and manicured gardens at Voyager Estate set a calm, elegant tone, making it ideal for a long, unhurried lunch. The restaurant focuses on seasonal dishes designed to complement their organically farmed wines, creating a dining experience that is both refined and deeply connected to the Margaret River region. It’s a wonderful choice when you want to slow down, settle in, and truly savour the afternoon.
Aravina Estate
Aravina is a fun one for groups, families, and anyone who wants a laid-back winery lunch that still delivers. They run both a restaurant menu and a pizza option for lunch service, so it works when everyone has different appetites, or when you want something easier-going without sacrificing quality.
Beyond the Vineyards
Artisan Producers and Local Gems
If you like the “little stops that turn into highlights,” build in time for a few producers between tastings.
Temper Temper, a boutique chocolatier offering handcrafted treats made with sustainably sourced cacao, is always a feel-good detour. Their Margaret River store is open seven days a week, and it’s the kind of place where you pop in for “one small thing” and walk out with gifts for everyone you know.
For a classic Margaret River treat (and a very easy crowd-pleaser), the Margaret River Chocolate Company is a reliable stop, especially if you’re travelling with family or you’re doing a slower, scenic day.
If cheese is your weakness, Cambray Cheese is worth the drive. Their farm shop is open daily for tastings, and it’s properly farm-based, rather than a simple retail counter.
For something casual with a local feel, Cowaramup Brewing Company is a solid afternoon plan. It’s family-owned, has that classic South West “stay a while” atmosphere, and it’s an easy place to settle in for a long lunch.
Lastly, drop by Margaret River Roasting Co. for ethically sourced, expertly roasted coffee – arguably some of the best in the region.
Coastal Dining
For a true beachside meal, The White Elephant Beach Café at Gnarabup is a must. It’s the kind of place where you can show up a bit sandy, order something fresh, and just stare at the ocean while you eat. They’re open daily in the mornings and early afternoons, which makes it perfect for a post-beach breakfast or lunch.
If you want to keep the coastal vibe going into the evening, Dunsborough is a great dinner option. Blue Manna Bistro is well known for seafood-focused dining, and it’s a lovely choice when you’re in the mood for something more “night out” than “quick bite.” Yarri Restaurant & Bar is another strong pick for a dinner booking, especially if you like the idea of settling in somewhere that feels lively and local rather than overly formal.
